August Smart Lock with a Euro Cylinder

The problem

The August Smart Lock is designed for American deadbolts. Most European doors use a euro cylinder, so the lock does not fit out of the box.

The solution

• A cylinder with a thumb turn on the inside and a key on the outside
• A 3D-printed adapter that connects the thumb turn to the August drive
• A mounting plate that sits flush on the door

Measure both sides of the cylinder before ordering: a few millimetres make the difference between a clean fit and a lock that sticks.

Living with it

The door now unlocks as I arrive and locks itself a minute after closing. The physical key still works, which keeps everyone at home comfortable.
